Randomized Trial Comparing the Flexible 19G and 25G Needles for Endoscopic Ultrasound-Guided Fine Needle Aspiration of Solid Pancreatic Mass Lesions: Retraction

چکیده
Retraction notice for the article that appeared on page 128 of the January 2015 issue of the Pancreas journal. The randomized trial involved 72 patients between two participating centers. The published article includes 100 patients. The authors added 28 patients to show statistically that there was no difference in the main outcomes measures despite changing the sample size to 100 patients. The 28 patients with large pancreatic masses were subjects of another similar randomized trial (NCT01815606: Trial Comparing 19 and 25G Needles for Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) of Solid Pancreatic Mass Lesions Greater Than 35 mm) that has not been published or findings analyzed; the authors do not intend to publish the findings of that trial. The intent of the authors’was only to prove that an increase in sample size would have no bearing on the eventual findings of the study. It was not their intent to include this sample in the publication.

Randomized Trial Comparing the Flexible 19G and 25G Needles for Endoscopic Ultrasound-Guided Fine Needle Aspiration of Solid Pancreatic Mass Lesions
OBJECTIVES Although a large gauge needle can procure more tissue at endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA), its advantage over smaller needles is unclear. This study compared flexible 19G and 25G needles for EUS-FNA of solid pancreatic masses. METHODS This was a randomized trial of patients undergoing EUS-FNA of pancreatic masses using flexible 19G or 25G needle. Main o...
متن کاملA comparison of the efficiency of 22G versus 25G needles in EUS-FNA for solid pancreatic mass assessment: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Our aim in this study was to compare the efficiency of 25G versus 22G needles in diagnosing solid pancreatic lesions by EUS-FNA. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis. Studies were identified in five databases using an extensive search strategy. Only randomized trials comparing 22G and 25G needles were included. The results were analyzed by fixed and random effects. A total of 504 ...
متن کاملEndoscopic ultrasound-guided sampling of solid pancreatic masses: 22-gauge aspiration versus 25-gauge biopsy needles
BACKGROUND Biopsy needles have recently been developed to obtain both cytological and histological specimens during endoscopic ultrasound (EUS). We conducted this study to compare 22-gauge (G) fine needle aspiration (FNA) needles, which have been the most frequently used, and new 25G fine needle biopsy (FNB) needles for EUS-guided sampling of solid pancreatic masses. METHODS We conducted a re...
متن کاملA Prospective Randomized Controlled Study Comparing EUS Sonopsy CY(R) and 22-gauge Biopsy Needles for Endoscopic Ultrasound-guided Fine-Needle Aspiration of Solid Pancreatic Mass Lesions.
Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) is a standard procedure for precise histological diagnosis of pancreas tumors, but it is sometimes difficult to obtain adequate specimens. EUS Sonopsy CY® is a newly designed needle with original features. This randomized study will compare the tissue collection rate of EUS Sonopsy CY® to that of a conventional needle in EUS-FNA. The...
متن کاملTechnical aspects of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided sampling in gastroenterology: European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) Technical Guideline - March 2017.
For routine EUS-guided sampling of solid masses and lymph nodes (LNs) ESGE recommends 25G or 22G needles (high quality evidence, strong recommendation); fine needle aspiration (FNA) and fine needle biopsy (FNB) needles are equally recommended (high quality evidence, strong recommendation). When the primary aim of sampling is to obtain a core tissue specimen, ESGE suggests using 19G FNA or FNB ne...
